Opening a server on TEBHOS takes a minute; setting up a good one takes a little longer. This post is about the second: how to set up a tidy, safe, growth-ready server for your friend group or community. You can be a member of 100 servers on the Starter plan and 200 with Pro; the servers you create count towards that number.
1. Create the server
- Sign in and press the plus button at the bottom of the server list on the left.
- Give the server a name and an icon. The icon is what shows in the list; pick a clear, simple image that reads well even when small.
- A text channel and a voice channel come ready on first launch. The rest is up to you.
2. Lay out the channels
A good channel layout starts with few channels. Our suggestion: an "announcements" channel (only admins post), a "general" chat, a "rules" channel and one or two voice channels. Group channels into categories; as membership grows you open new channels by topic. Ten empty channels look worse than one full one.
3. Set up roles and permissions
Roles are the backbone of a server. Go to the Roles section in the server settings and create at least these three:
- Admin — changes server settings, opens channels, assigns roles. Give it only to people you trust.
- Moderator — deletes messages, mutes, kicks or bans members. Keeps the chat orderly without admin permissions.
- Member — everyone’s default role. Cannot post in announcements, talks in the other channels.
Each role can have a colour; colours show who is who in the member list at a glance. You can also narrow permissions per channel: for example everyone reads the "rules" channel, nobody can post in it.
4. Create an invite link
Generate a link from the Invites section in the server settings. You can give the link an expiry (say 7 days) or a use limit; a permanent link makes sense for a public community, a limited one for a closed group. Whoever receives the invite link sees the server’s name, icon and member count and joins with one click — the invite card in Dynamic Island shows the same details.
5. Invite background (Level 1)
When your server reaches 10 boosts and becomes Level 1, your invite links open with an image you upload. This small detail sets the first impression of the person you invite; choose an image that reflects your community’s colours and spirit. If you are a Pro member, your 10 lifetime boosts can unlock this on their own.
6. Turn on the moderation tools
Set up your moderation before the server grows:
- Write a short list summarising the Community Guidelines in the rules channel; TEBHOS’s general rules apply on every server.
- Check the mute, kick and ban permissions of your moderators.
- Consider a starter role that lets new members post only in certain channels during their first days.
- When you see a rule violation, report it from inside the app; the Community Guidelines page explains what should be reported.
7. Get into Discovery
Discovery is TEBHOS’s public server directory; users find communities there and join with one click. To be listed in Discovery your server needs to reach Level 2 with 25 boosts. Level 2 also unlocks the server banner, animated icon and custom URL — exactly what you need to stand out in Discovery. Before listing, write your server description and upload the cover image; those are the first things seen in the directory.
The next step
When your server reaches 500 active members you can apply to the TEBHOS Partner programme: partner badge, verification and badged visibility in Discovery. Until then, the best investment is a tidy channel structure and a few good moderators who keep the conversation alive.
