Troubleshooting voice issues
Microphone permissions, device selection, the mic test and DeepFilter noise suppression — a step-by-step checklist.
Something off in voice chat? Most problems are solved in a few minutes. Work through this page top to bottom — we start with the most common causes.
No one can hear me
- You may be muted. Look at the microphone icon in the voice control bar; if it has a line through it you are muted — click to unmute.
- Check the browser permission. If you use TEBHOS in a browser, make sure the microphone permission is set to "Allow" via the lock/permissions icon in the address bar. If it is set to "Block", the browser passes no audio to the app at all.
- Is the right microphone selected? Pick the microphone you actually use from the input-device list in voice settings — on systems with several inputs (headset + laptop mic) the wrong device may be selected.
- Use the mic test. The microphone test in voice settings measures whether your voice reaches the app and shows it on a level meter. If the test bar moves, your microphone works.
I can't hear anyone
- Check deafen. If the headphone icon has a line through it, all incoming audio is off; click to undeafen.
- Check the output device. Pick the right speaker/headphones in voice settings; the system default output may have changed when you plugged in your headset.
- Leave and rejoin the channel. If the connection state has degraded, reconnecting usually fixes it.
My voice sounds robotic / choppy
- Check your internet connection. Voice chat is latency-sensitive; connection stability matters more than download speed. Switch to a wired connection or move closer to the router if you can.
- Our voice server is in Frankfurt. Latency from Türkiye is normally low; if your connection is routed through another country, latency may increase.
- Close other apps. Downloads and streaming apps eating bandwidth degrade voice quality.
Background noise
TEBHOS has neural-network noise suppression (DeepFilterNet3): it separates background noise like keyboard clatter and fan hum from your speech. You can toggle it via the noise-suppression option in voice settings. In the mic test you can hear its effect live.
If your voice sounds "boxed in" with noise suppression on, turn it off and try with only your browser's own noise suppression — which works better depends on your hardware.
Still not solved?
Note the following and write to us — you can use the template in the bug-reporting guide:
- platform (the Windows app, or which browser)
- the channel/server and the time when the problem occurred
- whether the problem is only on your end or affects everyone in the channel
