TEBHOS automatically expires older attachments. Smaller files stay available for longer, while larger files expire sooner.

How expiry is decided

The timer starts when you upload the file, and the window is fixed at upload time, based on the file's size. Files of 5 MB or smaller keep links for about 3 years (1095 days), the longest window. Larger files get shorter windows:

File size Retention
Up to 5 MB 3 years (1095 days)
10 MB (the free plan's cap) about 2 years 9 months
200 MB (the TEBHOS Pro cap) about 15 months

Most everyday sharing (images, documents, short videos) stays under 5 MB, so in practice most attachments are kept for 3 years.

Does viewing extend availability?

No. Unlike some platforms we take as reference, loading or downloading an attachment later does not extend its window today; the retention period is fixed at upload time. If this changes, we will update this page and record it in the Changelog.

What happens after expiry

We regularly sweep expired attachments (a cleanup job runs every 12 hours) and delete them from storage. The message text remains, but the file can no longer be opened or downloaded. Attachments are not included in our long-term backups: a file deleted from storage is irretrievable.

Uploads never attached to a message

If you upload a file but never send the message (for example, you close the window after uploading), the dangling upload record lapses on its own within 24 hours and the file can never be attached to any message.

Why we expire attachments

Large media is expensive to store indefinitely, so expiry keeps storage fair for everyone. Clearing older uploads also reduces the chance that sensitive files remain accessible for longer than needed.

Keeping important files

If you need a file, download it before it expires. For full account exports, see exporting your account data.

Frequently asked questions

Does TEBHOS Pro extend file expiry?

Not at the moment. The same attachment expiry limits apply to all users; Pro only raises the upload size limit.

Can I do anything to keep a file available?

Not today — the window is fixed at upload time. Download the file to your device if you want to keep it.
